CULTURAL HERITAGE
& SECURITY

Security at cultural heritage sites is an issue that has expanded in importance and scope in recent years. Traditionally, security has focused primarily on protecting valuable items from theft. Although that the danger remains ever present, it has become only one of a range of potential threats that need to be incorporated into a holistic approach to security.

This online course will provide an introduction to this important area of cultural heritage management and will held in collaboration with Trident Manor, a company specialized in security, risk and crisis management.

Introduction to the Protection of Cultural Venues– CPD Certified

This 3-hour program enables delegates to understand the threats that exist within the cultural sector, how they manifest themselves, and steps that should be taken to reduce the risks being faced.

The workshop is broken into five stages (described below), which collectively will enable delegates to take a proactive part in the protection of cultural heritage venues.

This program is designed for anybody and everybody working in cultural venues and is CPD-Certified - participants will receive accreditation from Trident Manor & The CPD Certification Service (details here).

1. Understanding Adversarial Threats
People are exposed to a wide range of threats daily. Understanding what threats exist is important to determine the levels of risks that can impact individuals or organisations.

2. Attack Methodologies
Attacks do not just happen! There is normally a series of stages that occur pre, during, and post any attack. By understanding how they happen allows greater opportunities to avoid being a victim.

3. Situational Awareness
This section outlines how to improve and develop situational awareness skills so that potential harmful situations are proactively identified and avoided. It highlights the benefits of analysing and responding what your senses, or the environment is telling you.

4. Surveillance Detection
The surveillance of people, places, vehicles, and venues is carried out more than we think. Delegates will begin to understand the different types of surveillance and how to spot them.

5. Effective Operational Practices
Delegates will understand the importance of effective operational practices and why they should be considered to ensure cultural property is kept safe and secure.
